      The high catalytic activity and the ability to form nanostructures through self-assembly of gold nanoparticles enable their application in the manufacturing of advanced materials. Self-assembly technology refers to the assembly of ordered nanostructures through special intermolecular interactions, such as electrostatic attraction, hydrogen bonding, and hydrophobic association, to achieve high performance and multi-functionality. The assembly process is not a simple superposition of weak forces among a large number of atoms, ions, and molecules, but rather the simultaneous and spontaneous association and aggregation of several individuals to form a tight yet orderly whole, which is a complex and coordinated effect of the whole.       Self-assembly Condition

      (1) There must be sufficient non-covalent bonds or hydrogen bonds present. This is because non-covalent bonds such as hydrogen bonds and van der Waals bonds are weak. Only when there are a sufficient amount of weak bonds can a stable nanostructure system be constructed through synergistic effects.

      (2) The energy of the self-assembly system is relatively low; otherwise, it is difficult to form a stable self-assembly system.

      Base: Glass/silicon wafer

      1. Soak in acetone, ultrasonicate, clean with deionized water and ethanol, and dry

      2. Wash with piranha solution (H2SO4+H2O2), deionized water and ethanol, and then dry

      3. The substrate was modified with thiol silane coupling agent, washed with deionized water and ethanol, and dried

      4. The base was soaked in a certain concentration of gold and silver colloid for several hours, then washed with deionized water and dried

      Service Application

      Nanoparticles can be modified with suitable ligands on their surfaces to achieve self-assembly effects. These nanoparticles have some other unique properties in addition to being self-assembling monomers. For instance, some precious metal nanomaterials, such as platinum nanomaterials, can utilize Pt2+ for tumor treatment. Gold nanomaterials can be applied in tumor photothermal therapy and other treatments due to their strong surface plasmon resonance absorption in the near-infrared region. Therefore, being able to control the self-assembly and aggregation of these types of nanoparticles is of great significance for their biomedical applications.

      The performance of magnetic resonance imaging is related to the aggregation state of nanoparticles. Dispersed iron oxide nanoparticles are mainly used for T1 imaging, while self-assembled aggregated iron oxide nanoparticles have good T2 imaging effects. Therefore, biological targeted imaging applications can be carried out by controlling the self-assembly of magnetic nanoparticles.
